An 86-year-old woman has been left devastated after a gold necklace with great sentimental value was stolen by a gang of opportunist thieves.
The victim was walking home along Hedgeway, East Hunsbury at about 10.15am today when a dark coloured saloon car stopped beside her. The front seat passenger showed her a small map and pointed at it.
A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “The victim offered to help, believing they were lost. The man then tried to put gold coloured jewellery around the victim’s neck and on her hand.
“The car then sped away and when the victim arrived home she realised her gold neck chain, of great sentimental value, had been stolen.”
The front seat passenger was an Asian man, about 60-years-old, of stocky build and wearing a dark jacket. The back seat passenger was an Asian woman, about 65 to 70-years-old and of thin build.
No description is available of the driver.
Witnesses, or anyone with information, can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
