Tom May has urged the Saints players to use the hostile Ravenhill atmosphere to their advantage on Saturday evening.
May and Co head to Belfast to face an Ulster side who ran out convincing 25-6 winners at Franklin’s Gardens last Friday.
And the Irish outift’s players are warning they are ready to raise the roof on their way to victory this weekend.
But May doesn’t see the partisan home crowd as a bad thing and he is using the experience of the two years he spent at Toulon before moving to Northampton to help his mindset.
“I think that one of the things that certainly I look back on my time in France is when you go to away grounds, it’s a very hostile environment,” said the 33-year-old.
“I can imagine that’s what Saturday evening is going to be like and as a player that’s what you really want to be playing in front of. It’s fantastic to be playing in front of crowds like that.
“We’re lucky to have a fantastic support base here in Northampton, but we certainly saw from the Ulster away fans that came here last week the impression that they made at an away game.
“So arriving there in Belfast, we know it’s going to be an equally hostile environment and it’s something to savour as well as look forward to using.”
May doesn’t foresee many changes between the style of play the two sides utilise on Saturday night.
But the utility back is keen to ensure the scoreline isn’t the same as last Friday, saying Saints have addressed the issues which blighted them in training this week.
“Nothing massively is going to change between the two teams and the way they play the game,” he said.
“We know we’ve got to put a few things right from what happened last week. We’ve addressed those and and we’re looking forward to going over to Ravenhill, which is an amazing place to play rugby.”
