Cobblers striker Alex Nicholls hopes to make significant progress in his recovery from a broken leg in the next two weeks.

The 24-year-old posted a statement on social networking site Twitter to inform supporters of the club of the state of play with his rehabilitation from a double fracture of the left leg suffered against Port Vale on October 27.

It made welcome reading for fans of the club, with whom Nicholls is a big favourite after kicking off his Northampton career with eight goals in his first 18 starts for the club.

“Getting a lot of tweets from u amazing people asking how my rehab is going,” the statement from Nicholls said. “I’ll send a few tweets letting u know what stuff I’m getting up to!

“Leg is feeling stronger every day and im able to do weighted squats/lunges and calf raises, also getting CV done on the cross-trainer and bike.

“My flexibility and mobility are nearly back at 100 per cent so its just a matter of building my muscles back up.

“My skin graft is not healed perfectly yet but it should only take another week before its dried up 100 per cent which will enable me to start swimming and running on the underwater treadmill, which will help massively to build my muscles, so it’s a bit of a waiting game at the moment.

“Things should really start to progress in the next two weeks or so!! Thanks for all the tweets and I hope that’s answered your questions.”
