The death of a 39-year-old man found in a Northamptonshire hotel room with head injuries is being treated as suspicious by police.

David Ross’s body was found at the Village Express hotel in The Jamb, Corby at about 2.40pm on Monday. Police say he had an “unexplained” head injury.

Police formally identified Mr Ross, aged 39, of Corby, this morning. He was also known by the Christian name Les.

Following the death, officers are also appealing for witnesses to any assaults in Corby’s town centre or Old Village areas after 2am on Monday.

Mr Ross was a partner in the new Corby nightclub Rubix, which he and Jon Cowell opened on December 6.

Mr Cowell said: “We are all devastated. Les was an amazing man and a gentle giant.

“I have known him for 15 years and for the past 12 months we have worked together on the nightclub project. It had been a life-long ambition of his to have a nightclub and we made it happen.

“He was well-known and respected in Corby and was professional in everything he did.”

A post-mortem examination is set to take place later today.

The Jamb was closed for a time to allow investigations to take place. Forensic examinations will continue at the hotel today.

Police are appealing for anybody with any information to contact the Operation Lane investigation team on 101. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
