A rapist has been detained indefinitely after being sentenced for the historic sexual abuse of two young girls.
Barry S Phillips, aged 57, from Christchurch Road, Northampton, was sentenced last week for historic sexual abuse and rape offences on two young girls in Corby.
Phillips was convicted in October of rape and indecent assaults which occurred between 1977 and 1988.
They were reported to the police in 2010, following which Phillips was arrested.
On Thursday, December, 13, he was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court to a Section 37 hospital order with a Section 41 restriction, having pleaded guilty.
This means he will be detained in a hospital and cannot be released without the consent of the Secretary of State.
Officer Rachael Harris, from Corby CID, said: “Historic sexual offences of this type can be difficult.
“People often feel that because of the time that has passed it will be hard to get people to believe them or get a conviction. Victims may fear coming forward after such a long time.
“However, this case shows that if you have been a victim, no matter how long ago, you should always contact the police.
“I would like to thank the victims for their courage and strength, without which it would not have been possible to bring the offender to justice.”
