Northampton Town to welcome back Widdowson for Aldershot visit

Joe Widdowson is set to return to the Cobblers squad for the visit of Aldershot on Saturday (2pm ko) after missing the trip to Torquay United with a dead leg.

Widdowson travelled to Devon but had to pull out of training the day before the game because of a complication with his injury.

Leading goalscorer Adebayo Akinfenwa will definitely miss the fixture with a one-game suspension after collecting a fifth booking of the season in the 1-1 draw at Torquay last weekend.

Ishmel Demontagnac returns to the squad after serving a one-game ban of his own - also for five bookings - at Torquay.

Luke Guttridge is increasing his training but will not be considered for selection yet, while John Johnson and David Artell are not due back until mid-January at the earliest. Johnson has had a second knee operation of the season and Artell is recovering from an Achilles injury.

Alex Nicholls is recovering well from a broken leg but his target for a comeback is pre-season training next summer.

For Aldershot, the only expected absentee is Ben Herd, who serves a suspension for his injury-time sending-off against Rochdale last weekend.

Midfielder Josh Payne, who was recently given a 12-month prison sentence for assault, has had his contract at the club terminated.
