Firefighters were called out to deal with two serious house fires in Northampton on Boxing Day.
Crews were called to a first floor flat in St Leonards Road, Far Cotton, at 5.41am where they found a sofa and lounge had gone up in flames.
The remainder of the flat was severely damaged by smoke and the cause of the fire has been found to be a candle.
Crews from Mereway, Moulton and The Mounts fire stations were then called to a three-storey end of terrace house in Cambridge Street, Semilong.
The ground floor kitchen was severely damaged by fire, while the rest of the property suffered severe smoke damage.
A spokesman for the fire service said the fire was believed to have been caused by an unattended chip pan.
