Northampton residents who usually have their black bins, black sacks and recycling boxes collected tomorrow will still have them collected on New Year’s Day.
The borough council said today that anything that does not fit into recycling boxes as usual can be placed alongside the boxes in clear plastic bags.
Large cardboard will also be collected if stacked next to recycling boxes up until January 6.
Black bin collections remain on the same days except for those that fell on Christmas Day which were collected yesterday.
When brown bin collections resume from next Monday, residents will be able to leave out their real Christmas trees for collection alongside their brown bins. Households who do not have brown wheelie bin collections can take their Christmas trees to their local waste recycling centre.
Councillor John Caswell, the borough’s cabinet member for environment, said: “There is always lots of extra waste over Christmas and we have been working hard to make sure as much as possible is recycled.
“By suspending brown bin collections we have been able to focus our efforts on picking up all of the extra plastic, paper and card that is unwanted after Christmas. And, next week we will take away real Christmas trees from households with brown bins.
“So make recycling your New Year’s resolution and help us to make Northampton a cleaner and greener place to live.”
