BBC Radio 2 presenter Jo Whiley has officially opened the University of Northampton’s new radio studio which has been named after her.
The presenter visited the university’s Avenue Campus off St George’s Avenue on Tuesday, to open the new facility.
The 47-year-old broadcaster, said: “It’s a real honour to have the studio named after me. I love radio. It’s my life to be honest.
“The fact I have got a radio studio named after me means a lot, especially in my home town.”
Jo is married to music executive Steve Morton and the pair have four children and live in Northamptonshire.
She added: “I hope this studio inspires a lot of people and I hope something good comes out of it.
“It will give students a good foundation for getting a job. You have to work with decent facilities to find out how it is in the real world.”
After opening the studio Jo took part in a recorded interview with students at the university and later gave a talk about the radio industry and her career.
Journalism student Sarah Corrigan, aged 23, said: “I’m a bit starstruck to be meeting Jo because I want to go into radio.
“It was helpful to get lots of tips from her during the talk and ask questions.
“It’s nice to name the studio after her.”
