More than 6,000 letters have been posted out to parents in Northamptonshire today detailing which secondary school place their child has been offered.
Figures released by Northamptonshire County Council show that 85 per cent of children have been placed in their parents first preference school.
However, a total of 94 children, or 1.4 per cent, did not get any of their stated preferences, while 13 per cent, 889 pupils, were allocated to their second or third preferences.
The total number of places allocated was 6,736, with 5,753 children placed in their parents first choice school.
Councillor Andrew Grant, cabinet member for children, learning and skills, said: “We work hard to ensure pupils are allocated to one of their preferred schools wherever possible.
“For anyone unhappy with the place their child has been allocated, there is an independent appeals process.
“I would urge anyone who may be considering an appeal to come along to one of the two information events that have been organised for more advice about the options available to them.
“I hope parents and students will find them useful in terms of planning the practical details around the transition to a new school.”
The parent information events will be attended by representatives from the council’s admissions, appeals, school improvement, school transport and free school meals teams.
The events will be held on Wednesday, March 6 from 2pm to 7pm at Kettering Conference Centre and on Thursday, March 7 from 2pm to 7pm at Franklin’s Gardens.
Families who applied using the council’s online system have been able to check their offer on the council’s website www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/admissions.
