A defendant’s botched escape attempt from Northampton Crown Court saw him end up in a secure dock with four defendants in a murder trial.
Peter Stearnes attempted to run away from security officers after being remanded in custody, and crashed through a door into one of the other courtrooms.
But instead of taking him to his freedom, the door led to the secure dock containing four defendants in a murder trial.
Stearnes, aged 30, of Avon Drive, Kings Heath, was quickly restrained by security guards.
He had appeared in court yesterday after being arrested on a warrant, after he had failed to turn up for a previous hearing.
He has admitted a dangerous driving charge, but the basis of plea has not been accepted by the court.
Stearnes will return to court for a Newton hearing - where the charge is admitted, but the exact details of the offence are not.
