Two young men had their watches stolen in an early morning robbery in a quiet village street.
The two men were set upon by two offenders after getting out of a taxi in High Street, Great Doddington, opposite The Village Stores, at 4.35am today.
Police believe they had just returned from a night out in Northampton.
Village rumours had suggested there was a stabbing, but police said this was not the case, and the victims were not injured.
Bharti Shah, from The Village Stores, said: “I knew there was a disturbance and a neighbour shouted out to see if everyone was alright. They didn’t come out, but this may have stopped it escalating.
“It is not something you expect in the village. As a rule it’s not too bad as it’s not a big village. It’s a shock to the system.”
