Courtney Lawes admitted the England dressing room was a quiet place after a Grand Slam chance and the Six Nations title was ripped from their grasp by Wales.
The Red Rose suffered a 30-3 defeat at the Millennium Stadium, shipping 21 unanswered points during a torrid second half.
Alex Cuthbert’s brace and the boots of Leigh Halfpenny and Dan Biggar clinched it for the Welsh, who won by far more than the eight points they needed to secure the crown.
For England it was a devastating day as they could only reply through a solitary Owen Farrell penalty.
And Saints star Lawes summed up the feeling in the away camp, as he said: “It’s pretty disappointing. The boys are quiet but that’s always the way after a tough loss like that.
“You’ve got to take it on the chin sometimes and we’ll go away, look back and rebuild and see what happens.”
Lawes was introduced in the 52nd minute of the game with England 12-3 down, but he was unable to stop the Welsh wave as they went on to record a stunning win.
And the Northampton forward, who was given a bit-part role in the tournament, admitted it was difficult to come off the bench against such a determined home side.
“It was real tough,” said the 24-year-old. “It’s always hard to make an impact in a game like that where it’s played at such a fast pace and you come on and you’re losing already.
“You’ve just got to try to do your best and play your best game, but it’s one of those things that’s hard to explain.
“Wales came out and they were really good and we didn’t match up.”
