David Ripley has been appointed as Northamptonshire head coach.

Having been in the role in an interim capacity since David Capel was removed from the position early last month, Ripley will take over the reins on a permanent basis having made a good impression in a short space of time.

And he believes that it is a job he can succeed at.

He said: “I think I can give it a go, I’ve got the support of the chief executive and the board, an international captain so I’m not on my own.

“I’d like to think that I will do a very passionate job for the club, just like David (Capel) did, but in a different way.

“I wanted to be sure that I was up to the job and having been out of my comfort zone a bit, it’s something that I want to do.”

And Ripley added that he will give his all to the role.

He continued: “I want to be busy and I want to coach.

“That’s how I am and I want the people who work here to be happy and to enjoy what they do.”

The club’s chief executive David Smith said, “There is little doubt the environment at the club has changed significantly since David has taken over.

“A good dressing-room is important for player retention and new player recruitment, as is a sense of belonging and what the club stands for.

“David has impressed everyone in how he has handled all elements of the job since taking over in early July.”

The new head coach will be joined on the coaching staff by Phil Rowe who will take over as the Second XI coach and Academy director having also performed the role in a temporary capacity following Ripley’s elevation.
