People in Northampton were able to get into the spirit of the Olympics by watching the action from London on a big screen in one of the town’s parks.

Every day this week, between 11am and 6pm, Olympic sports, including athletics, cycling, sailing, gymnastics and boxing were shown on a giant screen in Becket’s Park.

People of all ages were also able to take part in a range of sport taster sessions including athletics, rowing, basketball, badminton, tennis, judo and archery.

Play rangers arranged imaginative play sessions for youngsters aged four to 13-years-old where they were given the chance to build a den, paint and make a tyre swing.

Karen Kelly, of Duston, who took her son Simeon down to Becket’s Park to try out some of the activities, said she was impressed with the big screen.

She said: “I think it looks really good especially when the sun comes out and the weather is nice.”

Vicky Kelly, who took her two daughters to Becket’s Park, said: “I think it is a brilliant idea.”
