Tom May says the everyone at Saints is eager to provide a happy ending for the players leaving the club this summer.

May is one of the men likely to depart as he is set to join London Welsh at the conclusion of the current campaign.

The 34-year-old is set to be joined through the Franklin’s Gardens exit doors by the likes of Soane Tonga’uiha, Brian Mujati and Ryan Lamb.

And with five games of the regular season to go, May is hoping he and some of his team-mates can finish on a high by claiming Premiership glory.

“Whether lads are staying or leaving, it’s always a massive motivation,” said the experienced centre.

“There are a lot of guys who have been here for a long time that are leaving that we know about.

“We’re a tight-knit group and we work hard together to provide opportunities for lads who are leaving to leave on a high is always something we’ll work towards.”

But to stand any chance of winning the league, Saints must first secure a play-off place.

They currently sit pretty in fourth, but with just three points separating them from fifth-placed Gloucester and sixth-placed Wasps, who they play on Saturday, May knows it will be tough.

Ahead of today’s trip to Adams Park and the home game with Leicester seven days later, he said: “It’s not easy is it?

“Playing the team above you and the team below you in two weeks.

“It’s going to be tough to go away to Wasps, who are in good form and then the Leicester clash at home all form goes out the window. It’s like a local cup final I suppose.

“But these are the fixtures you look forward to as a group and as individuals and that’s where we want to be testing ourselves.

“If you want to be in with a shout of winning things these are the games you need to be doing well in.”
