The Prime Minister was today due to be lobbied by one of Northampton’s MPs to help boost business in the town.
The Conservative MP for Northampton South, Brian Binley, was due to meet David Cameron this morning.
During the meeting, the MP was expected to urge the Prime Minister to alter legislation surrounding enterprise zones to make them more attractive for businesses to invest in.
Speaking before the meeting, Mr Binley said: “Enterprise zone status is critical to ensuring Northampton can deliver on the economic challenges presented, and the ambitions which the Government has for our growing town.
“I know the Government shares my ambition to empower enterprise zones to drive recovery and growth, and look forward to our finding a way to make this change work for Northampton.
“This meeting with the Prime Minister could be an important first-step in delivering real growing momentum for enterprise zones.”
Northampton’s enterprise zone stretches from Sixfields to Bedford Road.
Businesses which operate in the zone benefit from relaxed planning legislation and tax breaks.
One of the first businesses to benefit from Northampton’s enterprise zone was Carlsberg, which opened a £20 million new bottling plant in the zone earlier this month.
