Three people have been found guilty of the murder of a 60-year-old, who was brutally beaten to death in Irthlingborough in August last year.
John York, aged 23, Jenny Ryan, aged 46, and Gary Monaghan, aged 65, were convicted by a jury at Northampton Crown Court this afternoon of the murder of Glenn Clary.
He was found with broken ribs, brain damage and a ruptured liver.
Mr Clary was punched, kicked and stamped on by three defendants after an argument at Monaghan’s Crouch Road home.
All four had been drinking heavily.
York, also of Crouch Road, was also convicted of a separate robbery of a 26-year-old man eight days before the death of Mr Clary.
Ryan, from Baker Street, had denied being present when Mr Clary, from Garden Field Close, Irthlingborough, died. York had pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility caused by alcohol dependency syndrome, while Monaghan had also admitted manslaughter.
The three defendants stared at the floor as the jury of seven women and five men announced its verdict after deliberating for two and a half hours following a trial which had lasted more than a month.
Judge Rupert Mayo told York, Ryan and Monaghan they would each receive a life sentence. The minimum tariffs will be set at a hearing on Wednesday.
The deputy investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Paul Hamilton, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said he was pleased with the guilty verdicts.
He said: “This is a very sad and tragic case of abuse against vulnerable persons in our community.
“The defendants, who were known to both victims, abused them for nothing more than their own gratification.
“We welcome the guilty verdicts at the end of this trial and hope they act as a deterrent to others who may seek to prey on the vulnerable in our society.”
