Secret mix does the trick for Pittams

WHAT a way to prove a new bait – a magnificent common just two ounces shy of 40lb while trialling a secret new mix still under development!

That was Gavin Pittams’ achievement in banking a 39-14 from Hope lake on Grendon complex.

Catching the whacker over spodded offerings 70 yards out, he was just putting his rod back in its rest when the other one signalled a take from a 25 pounder.

He’s been working on the concoction – a variation on the boilie theme provisionally dubbed ‘The Cube’ – with Carpin Capers’ Dougie. Expected on sale before autumn, its secret is apparently “all in the cooking.”

There were no secret baits in MKAA bailiff Heidi Arnold’s capture of an 11-8 PB bream from Bradwell lake – she just put the hours in with boilies until the biggie got its head down.

And in what has to be a good omen for the up-coming Furzton Festival, that lake has been producing 30 and 40lb bream nets of late.

Way over t’other side of town, Stanwick has been producing another clutch of good carp, at least eight 20s this week, as Mick Panther led the way with commons of 36-1 and 28lb – two new PBs in one trip.

On Olney’s Ouse Ray Todhunter used pellet on the tip to bag a 7-8 bream, a 7-12 carp and a 4-2 chub.

Daventry v White Hart Flore on Barby Banks was always going to be a local derby. This time the visitors totalled 572lb to Harts’ 626lb and had first and third with Mike Painter 76-8 and Carl Hully 59-8 WHF’s Mark Griffiths caught 74lb and Drew Adams 52-8. The return leg is on Tofts.
