Thousands are expected to pack up a picnic hamper and head to Althorp Park on Saturday for the fifth annual Battle Proms concert.

This year’s programme of music, displays and pyrotechnics will include the Blades Aerobatic Display Team, who are based at Sywell Aerodrome. There will be a full two hour programme of classical music performed by the New English Concert Orchestra, plus all of the ‘Last Night of the Proms’ favourites performed by Channel 4’s winning soprano Denise Leigh.

Audiences will also be treated to an aerial display from a WWII Spitfire, over 200 live cannons, mounted Napoleonic skill-at-arms displays and fireworks to music.

The Blades are a leading display team of former Red Arrows pilots renowned worldwide for flying precision aerobatics to the highest level. There will be an auction in the interval to spend a day as a front sea passenger with The Blades.

The Battle Proms this year supports Combat Stress: the Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society, which specialises in helping veterans of the Armed Forces and Merchant Navy with psychological injuries caused through service to their country.

Tickets for adults cost £33 if booked beforehand, up until the day before the concert, children aged five to 15 cost £16. Children aged four and under are free.

Tickets can be purchased at www.battleproms.com or by calling 01432 355 416. Gates open at 4.30pm, entertainments begin at 6pm, the event finishes at 10pm. For further information visit the website.
