Jon Brady believes Brackley need four wins from their final six Blue Square Bet North games to make the play-offs.
The Saints suffered a blow on Bank Holiday Monday, being beaten 4-2 by Corby Town at St James’ Park.
Despite that defeat, Brackley remain third in the standings as other results went their way.
But with the likes of FC Halifax Town, Altrincham and Harrogate Town in hot pursuit, the Saints can’t afford many more slip-ups.
And ahead of the home clash with second-placed Guisley on Saturday, Brady has urged his players to focus all their efforts on affecting the league table rather than looking at it.
“Looking at it now, we need at least four wins,” said the Brackley boss. “Everyone else keeps winning.
“We’ve got to forget about worrying about anyone else and just go and win the next game.
“We’ve got to forget about how many we need, we’ve just got to go and win the next game, and then win the next game, and then win the next game.
“I’ve told the lads to stop looking at league tables, stop looking at anyone else because they got here.
“You don’t look at the league table after the first five or six games, you just go and win the games. We went and did that, so we need to stop looking at the table.”
The defeat to Corby was Brackley’s fifth at home in the league this season, while they have only lost three away, and Brady admits he has not been impressed by his side’s St James’ Park form.
But he wants the Saints to bounce back this weekend against a Guiseley outfit they beat 2-0 on the road in February.
“It was probably one of the best performances of the season there and we need another good performance on Saturday,” he said.
“Our home form’s been very poor this year. It was a fortress last year. It’s disappointing and we’ve got to bounce back.”
The game against Guiseley is followed by another home clash with Vauxhall Motors on Tuesday night.
And Brady knows his men must get themselves mentally right after Monday’s shock showing against the Steelmen.
He said: “We get ourselves up mentally for games away on a Tuesday night, but Corby at home I felt we thought we could turn up on Monday and win the game.
“We’ve got to be positive. We can’t dwell on that and we’ve got to realise why we were poor on Monday and we’ve got to correct those things. If we get it right we’ll be fine.”
