Formula One fans who missed a day of action of this year’s British Grand Prix have until the end of the week to claim a refund from Silverstone.
Due to the chaos caused by extreme weather conditions at the event last month, the circuit asked fans to stay away on the Saturday to try and protect the sodden public car parks for race day.
Silverstone managing director Richard Phillips estimated between 20,000 and 30,000 fans would be affected and pledged to refund all ticket holders.
The deadline for people to apply for a refund is Friday, August 17.
Mr Phillips said all claims received so far had been processed, but the circuit wasn’t able to specify the number made.
He said: “We want to thank people for their patience regarding the claims process for the 2012 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix.
“We have now processed all the claim forms received to date and will be starting to refund money this week. Some cheques have already been sent.
“Refunds will be made by cheque and these will be posted out via Royal Mail. All valid claims received by the cut-off date of August 17 will be refunded as soon as possible thereafter and it is our aim to have this completed by September 8.”
In the wake of the weekend, Silverstone promised a “thorough review” of the weather-related issues which affected the event.
Despite the awful conditions, 297,000 people attended over the course of the weekend.
This included a record race day crowd of 127,000 who were all able to enter and exit the circuit safely after the decision to restrict the attendance the previous day.
