COUNCILLORS are tonight due to discuss how to make the town centre a safer place to be.

Over the next few months a panel, which has been set up by Northampton Borough Council, will look at theft, burglary and violent crime in Northampton.

At the end of the process a report will be published to help the newly elected Police and Crime Commissioner for Northamptonshire to set his or her priorities for reducing crime in the town.

Councillor Danielle Stone, chairman of the Overview and Scrutiny Panel said: “Crime is something that we all think about, but thankfully only a small number experience.

“We have already looked at the statistical side of crime and are now asking people to tell us about their views. We are interested in finding out what perceptions people have about crime and what is being done to reduce it.

“It is important we ask the right questions to the right people. So our panel would be very interested in hearing from anyone who would like to attend the meeting and discuss what the crucial questions are. Your views could help us advise the new Police and Crime Commissioner on what their priorities should be for our town.”

It is not compulsory to register to speak at the meeting. However, to help schedule the meeting and ensure everyone has the chance to be listened to, it is requested that anyone who would like to speak should contact Tracy Tiff by calling Northampton 837408 or email ttiff@northampton.gov.uk.

Anyone is welcome to attend and speak at the meeting which will start at 6pm tonight and held at The Guildhall. Information about the meeting is available online at www.northampton.gov.uk/meetings.
