A new assistant chief constable for Northamptonshire Police has been appointed, with responsibility for tackling serious crime and criminal networks.

Russ Foster will join the force from Derbyshire Police, where he is currently a chief superintendent. He will take over from Paul Phillips, who has been acting chief constable for the last three months.

ACC Foster said: “I have spent my entire policing career in the East Midlands and am delighted to have been appointed.

“Northamptonshire Police is focused on making this county the safest in the country and I am absolutely committed to doing the very best I can to help us achieve this.

“I look forward to getting to know officers and staff throughout the force and working closely with them to make our communities safer.”

ACC Foster joined Nottinghamshire Police in 1993 and served as a detective in every rank up to detective superintendent before transferring to Derbyshire in 2009, where his roles included head of serious and organised crime.

Chief constable Adrian Lee said: “I am very pleased Russ will be joining us and I look forward to working with him on our journey towards becoming the safest county in the country.

“Russ was appointed after a tough selection process. He has a wealth of operational policing experience and is very well suited to meet the challenges in Northamptonshire over the coming years. I am confident he will be a real asset to the force.”
