Sailing clubs in Northamptonshire are giving people the chance to try the sport for free at a series of open days this month.

Northampton SC at Pitsford Reservoir and Banbury SC on Boddington Reservoir will both open their doors on Sunday May 5, while Middle Nene SC, near Thrapston, will welcome visitors on Monday May 6.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Sport said: “These fun-filled open days are guaranteed to offer something for everyone, whether you are a novice or looking to get back into the sport after a break away.

“Enjoy your first taste of sailing under the watchful eye of an experienced club member, get to grips with one of the club’s own boats or simply sample the social side of what your local sailing club has to offer.

“The doors are open to welcome everyone regardless of age, gender or experience. Just bring a change of clothes, soft-soled shoes and waterproofs and the clubs will supply everything else you need. Refreshments will be available.

Hollowell SC (Hollowell Reservoir) and Cransley SC (Cransley Reservoir) will host their open days a fortnight later to coincide with national RYA ‘Push the Boat Out’ weekend. RYA ‘Push the Boat Out’ will see sailing clubs across the country inviting local people to come and ‘have a go’ at sailing and windsurfing. The weekend provides the perfect chance for everyone to get out on the water and celebrate a national weekend of sailing.
