Police have confirmed there were no arrests made at last night’s Cobblers play-off match, which ended with a pitch invasion and smoke coming from the away supporters’ end.
Cobblers took a big step towards a Wembley final in the first leg of the play-off which ended with Northampton Town beating Cheltenham 1-0.
However, after the final whistle home fans poured onto the pitch to celebrate, while smoke began pouring out from the South stand, which housed the 650 away fans for the match.
Some of the home fans were seen to have “goaded” the Cheltenham fans after the final whistle.
Pc Nick Price, meanwhile, confirmed on social networking site Twitter last night police were investigating the apparent “smoke bomb” incident.
He said: “Can confirm the smoke bomb incident in the away end is being investigated #cctv.”
A Northamptonshire Police spokesman this morning said: “There were no incidents of note last night at the Cobblers game, and no arrests were made.”
The return leg will be played on Sunday.
