Twelve suspected illegal immigrants have been detained after they were discovered in the back of a lorry at a motorway service station in Northamptonshire today.
Police were called to deal with the 12 people after members of the public heard them banging on the side of the lorry at Watford Gap services on the M1.
An ambulance and police arrived at the scene and officers have now transferred the 12 people to Northampton where they are due to be processed and later collected by immigration.
Pc Dave Lee, from the roads policing unit, said on Twitter: “Manic day so far. Just got a lorry stopped at Watford gap services with 12 illegal immigrants in the back.
“Police minibus is now on scene. All 12 now enroute to custody in Northampton to be processed and collected by immigration.”
