Britain’s Got Talent winners Ashleigh and Pudsey will open an annual walk to raise funds for a Northamptonshire breast cancer charity.

Crazy Hats has revealed that Tuesday May 14 will be the date of its 2013 fund-raising walk at Wicksteed Park in the county.

The sixth annual event, which was originally planned for Sunday March 24 but postponed due to bad weather, will start at 6.30pm at the Kettering venue.

Crazy Hats founder and executive fund-raiser, Glennis Hooper, said: “This year we are hoping to attract even more walkers, especially now we have our special guests opening the show.

“With more walkers we hope to raise more money, with this year’s donations going towards supporting breast cancer projects at Kettering and Northampton General Hospital.”

The charity, which helps local women with breast cancer, raised £55,000 at last year’s event.

About 3,000 people are expected to take part again this year and Northamptonshire duo Ashleigh and her pet dog Pudsey will open the event, which is sponsored by Avon, as part of its global fundraising programme, Avon’s Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer.

Participants will follow a five mile route around the park while sporting colourful and wacky hats.

Ashleigh said: “Pudsey and I are so excited to be part of the Crazy Hats walk and feel honoured to be able to open the day. It’s such a fun way to raise money for a great cause and we hope that lots of people will join us.”
