One of the Northampton parish councils formed following a Community Governance Review last year meets for the first time tonight, just hours after an uncontested election was ratified.
Hunsbury Meadows Parish Council will meet this evening after Northampton Borough Council chief executive David Kennedy - the returning officer - formally announced its membership today.
Owen Coop, chairman of Banbury Lane Residents Association was elected alongside Debbie Hammond, Sandy Hudson, Steve Jelley, Rob Matthews and Brad West - all of them also members of the residents association - as well as former county councillor for West Hunsbury, David Hugheston-Roberts.
An election count was also held today for the new West Hunsbury Parish Council, the poll for which took place alongside the county council elections last Thursday.
In a 32.7 per cent turnout, the elected councillors were six “independents” John Crouch, Brian Hoare, Melvyn Holford, George Hook, Richard Matthews and Sarah Parkin while John Smyth (“Independent, Opposer of this Expensive Farce”) and Stephen Tomlinson (“Independent - Review, Consider, Decide”) were also elected.
Mr Smyth polled more votes, 489, than any of the other 16 candidates.
The first meeting of West Hunsbury Parish Council will be held on Thursday May 16 at the Parsons Meade Community Room, West Hunsbury, where tonight’s 7.30pm meeting ias also taking place.
