More than 200 Cobblers fans turned out at Sixfields on Friday afternoon to give the team a heroes’ send off for Wembley.
Aidy Boothroyd and his first team squad left Northampton for their hotel at about 3pm, ready for Saturday’s huge League Two Play-off Final against Bradford City.
Fans grabbed players to have their photographs taken with them and to get their Wembley programmes signed, before they then waved the team off as they drove away from the stadium.
Chris Flavin-Sweeney, aged 42, from Kingsthorpe, was there with his five-year-old daughter, Grace.
He said: “We are just down here to see the lads off and to support them.
“We are season ticket holders and we will be there at Wembley.”
Chris Dix, aged 30, a season ticket holder from Northampton who now lives in Wellingborough, was also among the group of fans ready to wish the team well. He admitted he was feeling a “nervous excitement” before the match.
He said: “It is huge for a club like Northampton.
“You have to try to enjoy moments like this because they don’t come around very often.
“We’ve had a couple of bad years and for once we’ve got something good to shout about.”
James Howes, aged 26, from Wootton, admitted he only went to Sixfields to buy a scarf but ended up staying to cheer the team off.
He added: “I’ve been a fan all my life and I live in the town and although I haven’t been able to go to many games this season something like this gets everyone out and excited.”
A club spokesman said: “We would like to say a big thank you to all who came down on cheer the lads.
“Thanks for your support, and we’ll see you at Wembley.”
