More than 2,000 people attended a jobs fair at the Guildhall today organised by Northampton MP Michael Ellis.

It was the second year in a row the Conservative MP for Northampton North had organised the event which featured a number of stalls run by local companies including Nationwide, Asda and Halifax.

The event was also attended by treasurer minister MP Sajid Javid.

Me Ellis said: “The companies were delight with the turnout. Many people mentioned how attractive it was to come to an event where so many people turned out and the fact there was no charge to run a stall.

“It’s great to have an event in the heart of Northampton which may help people in the town get into employment

“The minister was also very impressed with the event and it bodes well for the next jobs fair.”

Mr Javid said the enterprise Zone in Northampton would help the town create more jobs in the next few years.

He said: “The enterprise zone creates the right conditions for business growth through tax incentives and will lead to more jobs being created.

“I think it is a fantastic achievement by Michael Ellis to put this event on for the second time.”

The inaugural Michael Ellis Jobs Fair event last year was attended by 1,200 people.
