Northampton Carnival Arts Consortium has revealed that chart-topping UK reggae artist Sandra Cross will be headlining the event this year.
This year’s carnival takes place on Saturday, June 8, and will be closed by an artist who has scored five number one singles, including I Adore You, Country Living and Yesterday.
Ms Cross has also had 10 top 10 albums, eight UK Reggae Music and Entertainment Awards, and also earned the title of the BBC ‘Britain’s Best Female Reggae Singer’ for six consecutive years, between 1986 and 1991.
The carnival is being held at Far Cotton recreation ground and live entertainment will start at midday.
There will be performances from Saving Amy, Cee Cee Dance Studios, Kerry Phipps’s Irish Dance Troupe, S-Clusive Dance School, Jane Pell’s Gym Acrobatic, Nataya from Drizabone Soul Family, The Rock Choir, Anna-Marie from Superfly, Royal & Derngate Community Choir and MC JKaz.
The parade sets off at 2pm and returns to the carnival field at 4.30pm. Entertainment continues until 7.30pm.
Volunteer Janet Gordon said: “This year’s theme ‘Celebrating Nature – A Carnival Safari’ will see the town centre transform into an array of colour and artistic flair as the parade sets off.
“We’re delighted Ms Cross will end Northampton Carnival 2013 with a bang.”
