County prepare for an important run of matches

Northamptonshire head coach David Ripley is preparing himself for a hectic period of cricket.

The County have back-to-back one-day matches over the bank holiday weekend as they begin a run that will see them play five Yorkshire Bank 40 and four LV= County Championship games in under a month.

It is a tough schedule and one that is an important section of the season.

A good run through June could set them up perfectly for the rest of the summer but any dip in form would be extremely costly.

“To be honest I quite enjoyed the routine at the start of the season,” Ripley admitted.

“It was nice knowing that you have blocks of four-day games and then a few one-day games.

“But that’s not county cricket.

“There’s a lot of bobbing around and changing between formats and we have to get used to that now.

“There are now four Championship games in four weeks with a few one-day games thrown in.

“It’s quite a busy period so we have to be ready.”

With a largely second-string side playing in the university game at Loughborough, the first-team players will have a one-day practise match tomorrow having had a couple of days to rest following their travelling to Holland earlier in the week.

The games this weekend will see one-day captain Alex Wakely take his side to Worcestershire on Sunday before Warwickshire come to the County Ground on Bank Holiday Monday.
