Northamptonshire’s men compiled their biggest ever tally of 24½ points in the Eastern Counties Foursomes tournament as the side finished a respectable third at Seacroft in Lincolnshire.
With Overstone duo Tom Anderson and Harry Woan winning both their ties, the team made a steady start as they beat Bedfordshire 3½-1½ but lost by a single point to Leicestershire on the opening morning.
Jim Campbell’s side found their touch in spectacular fashion in the afternoon as they whitewashed Suffolk and only dropped a couple of half points in beating Norfolk.
Lewis White (Northampton) and Paul Hodgkiss (Farthingstone) were particularly impressive against Norfolk as they completed a 8&7 victory.
Despite a narrow loss to leaders Cambridgeshire the following morning, the team stayed on track for a good finish as Fraser Carnihan (Brampton Heath) and Dan Ashcroft (Northants County) helped secure a 4-1 win over Warwickshire.
Although Kyson Lloyd (Wellingborough) and Michael Campbell (Kettering) collected their fifth point in a 3½-1½ victory over Essex, a half for Graham Bott (Cold Ashby) and Jack Brown (Brampton) proved to be the highlight in the final match with Lincolnshire.
Cambridgeshire won the event by three points from Lincolnshire, who pipped Northants by just half a point.
County President Malcolm Evans said: “The performance and the personal commitment was exceptional in achieving the result that we obtained.
“Everyone contributed. The score on Saturday afternoon was absolutely brilliant. It was a joy to watch and we are very proud of all of the team.”
