Police have appealed for help after a “large quantity” of road signs and lights were stolen from a main road in Northamptonshire.

The thieves, who police say may have used a large vehicle that looked like an official van, stole the signs and lights from the A45 between last Monday night and Tuesday night.

The signs were laid out in preparation for the start of roadworks in the area.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police today said: “We are appealing for information about the theft of a large quantity of traffic management signs from the A45 near Wellingborough last week.

“At some time between 10pm on Monday, June 3, and 8.45pm the following day, signs and lights – that had been laid out on the stretch of the A45 between Wilby Way and Turnells Mill Lane, in preparation for roadworks – were removed.

“It is believed a large vehicle would have been required to remove the signs and lights and that it may have looked like a Highways vehicle.”

Witnesses can call Northamptonshire Police on 101 - alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
