The victim of a fatal car crash in Northamptonshire last week has today been named by police as a 70-year-old woman from Rushden.

Julie Bunkall, of The Hedges, died after her silver Peugeot 206 crashed with a black Peugeot 308 on Thursday.

The passenger in Mrs Bunkall’s Peugeot, a 69-year-old woman from Wellingborough, remains in a critical condition at Walsgrave hospital, while the driver of the black Peugeot was also taken to hospital and has since been released.

The collision happened at around 2.40pm on Thursday, on the A6 near Burton Latimer, on the stretch of road between the Higham Road and Cranford Road junctions, near the Wold Road bridge.

The black Peugeot 308 was travelling north towards the A14, while the silver Peugeot 206 was travelling south towards Finedon.

A white Mercedes box van was also travelling north and stopped at the scene.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have been travelling on the A6 around the time of the collision, or anyone who may have witnessed the crash.

Anyone with information can call the Drivewatch Hotline on 0800 174615 or Northamptonshire Police on 101.
