Business leaders from Northampton who want to travel to India will soon be able to get visas more quickly.
During a trip to India this month, the leader of Northampton Borough Council, Councillor David Mackintosh (Con, Rectory Farm) struck a deal which will make it easier for people in Northampton to get visas to travel to the country.
Commenting on the benefits of the move, he said: “I’m delighted we’ll soon offer a fast track visa service from The Guildhall for businesses wanting to work in India and requiring an urgent visa.”
During his Indian trip, the council leader promoted Northampton as a business location to a host of officials and business leaders.
He said there was a lot of interest from companies looking to move to the UK, particularly when it was explained Northampton had excellent transport links and was a cheaper place to operate from than London.
He said: “The Indian business community has a huge amount of ambition and is keen to grasp every opportunity.
“That reflects our own drive and determination in Northampton and I’m sure the common ground we share will lead to some mutually beneficial opportunities.
“I have already been contacted by several Indian executives who plan to visit the UK and would love to find out more about what we have to offer.
“They recognise that our strategic position and support network are unrivalled in the UK, and I welcome the opportunity to demonstrate our strengths to an international audience.”
The council leader is now holding regular talks with a number of Indian companies who have expressed an interest in doing business in Northampton.
