Sixty-two people have now been arrested as part of a summer police blitz on drink drivers in Northamptonshire
It means, since the start of the clampdown on June 1, three more arrests have been made compared to the same period last year.
Sergeant Tony Hopkins from the Operations Tactical Unit, said: “I’m really pleased with these results. There is no place on our roads for anybody who is irresponsible enough to drink before getting behind the wheel.
“With the barbeque season in full swing, we want to be really clear on our message: the only safe limit is none. The potential consequences of deciding to drink and drive are catastrophic. Drink driving relates to around 15 per cent of all fatalities on our roads.
“Other consequences include a minimum 12 month driving ban, a criminal record, a fine of up to £5000 and an endorsement which will stay on your licence for 11 years.
“Even if you’re not driving, you can help reduce the number of people who are killed and injured every year by drink driving. Don’t offer an alcoholic drink to someone you know is planning to drive.”
The force’s annual summer campaign began on June 1 and will be in place until June 30.
