Wootton Road Runners’ ladies secured two podium finishes in the Banbury 5 road race.

Imogen Norton was the club’s pick of the bunch, finishing second overall and claiming first in the F35 category in a time of 31.18 to help the veteran ladies team to second place and the senior ladies to third.

Jo Gardner was the next scorer in a time of 34.21 with fellow vets Frances Hooper (38.19) and Antoinette Kiely (38.25) completing the scoring for the ladies.

Wootton were represented by 25 runners on the night with the men’s team particularly under strength.

First man home was V45 Richard Fowler in a time of 29.30 with vets Richard Lack (29.45) and the returning Tony Baross (31.18) accompanied by senior Michael Carrea (32.33) and vet endurance man Stephen Young (36.25) going on to complete the scoring.

On the night the senior men were ninth and the vet men fifth.

With three races left in the series, Wootton’s senior and vets ladies hold first place, the veteran men are in first place and the senior men third in the overall series standings.

Botheroyd leads Rugby & Northampton AC veterans to second-place finish

Iain Botheroyd led the way as Rugby & Northampton AC’s veteran men finished in second place in the Banbury 5 race.

The 44-year-old clinched a top 10 place in the fifth race of the East Midlands Grand Prix when he recorded 27.57 to cross the line in ninth spot and fourth in his age group.

Behind Botheroyd and just 11 days his junior was club president John Gercs, who was timed at 28.25 in 17th position, and fellow M40 Vince Carroll was exactly one minute adrift in 27th place.

Completing his fourth race in the series and closing off the veteran team was
Alan Mould with 32.50, which put him 85th overall and sixth in the M50 category.

This same quartet also counted in the senior team, which finished in fourth on the night, their highest placing of the series so far.

Angela Copson won the overall series in the F65 section, making it five wins from five.

Her time of 34.08 placed the R&N international in 15th position.

Second lady home for the club was Kate Williams in 27th spot on 36.33 (F50 5th) and setting another lifetime best for the distance was Nikki Turner with a time of 38.36 and finished 40th yet again, but went second in the overall series in the F40 category.

The veteran ladies finished in third place for the third time with the seniors coming fifth.

Heather Fiddament-Harris is well on her way to a series victory after she clinched her third straight win in the F60 race with 43.51, while club champion Lisa Johnson moved to second in the F45 category for the series when she recorded 43.56.

After two seconds and two thirds Valerie Cross looks a good bet for the runners-up spot in the F60 section.

Her time of 50.11 at Banbury placed her second behind Fiddament-Harris.
