Police have confirmed a robber ran at a delivery driver brandishing an “axe or a sledgehammer” in a raid outside a pub close to Billing Aquadrome on Friday.

The robbery happened at around 2.30pm, outside The Quays, in Crow Lane.

Two men, one wearing a balaclava, sped off on a motorbike having threatened them as he was returning to his vehicle and stolen a cash box.

A police spokesman said: “We are appealing for witnesses to a robbery that happened in Crow Lane, Northampton, on Friday, June 21.

“The incident happened at approximately 2.30pm, outside The Quays public house.

“The victim was returning to his vehicle, which was parked in the pub car park. A man was seen coming out of the bushes, running towards the victim. He was holding a weapon, believed to be an axe or a sledgehammer, and was shouting at the victim to give him the money.

“The offender threatened the victim with the weapon and the victim placed a cash box on the floor. The offender stole the box, ran away and got on a black and orange-coloured motorbike being ridden by a second man.

“Both men rode away on the motorbike.”

The offender is described as a young, white man, of “stocky build”. He was wearing dark clothing, trainers and a black balaclava.

He had a local accent.
