A man who did not have a driving licence, and who reversed into an elderly lady before giving a false name to police when he was arrested, has been fined £340.
Stephen Candler had been trying to reverse out of the way of a bus in Birchfield Road East, Abington, Northampton, on May 30, when he hit the woman in his Peugeot 407. Northampton Magistrates’ Court heard he was travelling at “very low speed” and the woman was not injured.
But when questioned by police at the scene, Candler, aged 40, of North Holme Court, Thorplands, Northampton, gave the name of a friend, who had a licence and insurance.
Candler was given eight points on his licence and a £125 fine for having no insurance. He was also given a £35 fine for having no licence and a £75 fine for obstructing a police officer.
