Every day this month the Chron will be teaming up with the Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID) to feature a ‘Business of the Day’ – giving you more information about an independent firm in the town.
Today, we highlight Saffron in Castilian Street
The Indian restaurant industry in Northampton is long-established and continues to go from strength to strength but few can claim to be as vibrant as Saffron.
The Castilian Street venue has quickly become one of the town centre’s most popular restaurants, its selection of Bangladeshi classics and exotic Nepalese cuisine proving a winning formula.
Fresh fruit and vegetables are sourced from the local market, just a few hundred yards from the door, while the meat is from local suppliers.
There is also a commitment to providing a healthy alternative to the staple items on the menu, with a range of ‘lighter bites’ devised by head chef Bodrul Islam, again making the most of local ingredients to come up with something that is both ethical and tasty.
The restaurant’s regular charity nights raise vital money for local good causes, ensuring those less fortunate benefit from others’ goodwill.
Owner Naz Islam said: “All the charities we support are local, ensuring that money is kept within the community for the befit of the people of Northampton.
“We are proud to be independent and we believe Northampton has a lot to offer, there’s a great mix of businesses in the town and if all of us work together it can really go places in the future.”
Recently the restaurant has produced commemorative dishes to mark Cobblers and Saints appearances in play-off finals, typifying their commitment to Northampton life.
