The governors of a Northamptonshire secondary school have announced the appointment of a new headteacher.

Claire Whitmore is set to take over Campion School in Bugbrooke from January 2014 and will replace Bob Clayton who is retiring at the end of the year.

Mr Clayton has been in charge of the school for the past seven years and has overseen an improvement in the Ofsted rating form “satisfactory” to “good”

Mrs Whitmore, who is joining from Barr’s Hill School in Coventry where she is the deputy headteacher, said she was thrilled to be given the opportunity to take over at Campion.

She said: “I am delighted to be joining Campion as Headteacher. Campion is a highly successful school and it will be a privilege to build on current achievements and lead the school onwards through the next stage of its development. I am really looking forward to working closely with students, staff, parents, governors and the wider community in the coming months.”

John Baylis, Campion’s Chair of Governors said “Campion has come a long way during Bob Clayton’s time as headteacher and we are confident that Claire will be able to lead the school to even greater success”
