Every day this month the Chron will be teaming up with the Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID) to feature a ‘Business of the Day’ – giving you more information about an independent firm in the town.
Today, we highlight The Wine Connection in Derngate
With an incredible collection of almost 500 wines, plus spirits and local beers, The Wine Connection is something of an Aladdin’s Cave for discerning drinkers in Northampton.
Since it opened in Derngate last year, the shop has won a loyal army of customers eager to try out wines from boutique vineyards from across the world.
Manager Graham Lancaster said: “We are fortunate to have some very strong links with some excellent suppliers and we enjoy a great relationship which allows us to get into the small vineyards and micro-producers. The quality is superb.
“People are fed up of queuing up in a faceless supermarket for a bottle of £5 wine which has been discounted from £10 to look like a good deal. Customers aren’t daft, they know it’s not genuine and they come to us to get a genuine price for a beautiful bottle of wine.”
As well as international wines, the shop also sells a range of locally brewed beers, wines and spirits and are keen to promote Northamptonshire producers wherever possible.
Mr Lancaster added: “We had one supplier from Earls Barton contact us through Twitter asking how to get their product into our store. We went along, tasted it and stocked it straight away, It’s brilliant nad has gone on to be one of our biggest sellers.”
Downstairs is an art gallery featuring works from a number of local artists and they host regular tasting sessions showcasing their products to potential customers.
