Every day this month the Chron is teaming up with the Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID) to feature a ‘Business of the Day’ – giving you more information about an independent firm in the town.
Today, we highlight WH Bonham in St Giles Street
W.H. Bonham has been trading in Northampton since 1856 – a staggering 157 years. During that time it’s established a reputation for supplying the exact requirements of the most demanding of feet and has become one of the finest stockists of wide-fitting ladies’ shoes in the country.
Bonham’s stocks shoes from leading manufactures from Britain and around the world, giving the perfect combination of style and comfort.
Today’s management team of Richard and Jane Roberts bring a wealth of experience resulting from almost 50 years in the job, having been thoroughly trained, in the Victorian style, from the start by the Bonham family, makers of bespoke surgical footwear.
Mr Roberts said: “We do things the old-fashioned way and people seem to like that. We don’t have customers picking shoes off a rack themselves and hopping around the shop trying them on, we give a completely different level of service.
“People are coming back to our way of thinking on that. Customers tried the other way but once they give us a try again they realise what it is they have missed. That combination of service and knowledge is what makes us so popular.
“Our staff have been working here for a long, long time. They know the shoes inside out and they know the customers too, it’s great to have that relationship.”
Bonham’s stocks shoes from a number of leading designers, including Loakes,
