The trial of a man accused of murdering an elderly coin and medal dealer may not happen until February next year, a judge warned today.

Mark Ellson, aged 40, appeared at Northampton Crown Court this morning to face one charge of murder.

He is accused of killing Guiseppe Miceli, aged 72, at his home in Bants Lane, Duston, between July 11 and July 13.

Mr Miceli (pictured), who used to have a shop in Wellingborough Road, Northampton, was found dead last Saturday by his brother. He died of head injuries, Northamptonshire Police have said.

Northampton Crown Court today heard that Ellson, from Wellingborough, is alleged to have visited Mr Miceli’s home on July 12.

No pleas were entered.

Judge Rupert Mayo provisionally set the date of the trial for February next year.

He said: “Mr Ellson, your case will be heard here in the New Year.

“You must attend a plea and case management hearing (PCMH) in the week commencing October 28, which will be held in Birmingham.”

Speaking afterwards, members of Mr Miceli’s family spoke to simply say they were “devastated” by the death of the pensioner.
