Two years on from the death of pensioner Karoly Varga detectives have issued a renewed appeal for information about his the brutal murder.
Saturday, July 27, marks the second anniversary of the violent murder of Karoly, 76, who was locally known as Charlie, at his home in Cannon Street, Wellingborough.
Officers hope that someone will provide that vital piece of information on the murder so that the family can finally have some closure.
At the time, officers released CCTV footage showing a visitor to the house at midday, who entered the home and is believed to have been the murderer.
Charlie was not seen alive after this visitor entered the front door and left unseen through the back door. This man would have had to walk through Bell Court or Bell Street to leave the scene.
This man visited Charlie at 12.04pm and has never been identified.
Charlie’s body was later discovered on Saturday July 30, 2011, where it was discovered that he had been attacked by a hatchet-like weapon.
Detective Chief Inspector Martin Kinchin, said: “While it is two years since Mr Varga’s murder, we are still working towards bringing his killer to justice and I remain confident that we can do this.
“Solving this case remains our priority and we continue to work with forensic experts and the Crown Prosecution Service to find the evidence needed to arrest and convict the person responsible.”
Rita Groves, Charlie’s daughter, said “Our father was a kind man, who was no threat to anybody and so we cannot understand why anybody would want to attack him in this way.
“It is disappointing that despite our reward and the hard work of the police nobody has ever been convicted of his murder - whilst his death remains unresolved we struggle to find any closure.”
A £10,000 reward for information leading to a successful conviction remains on offer from Charlie’s family.
Officers have continued searching for several key missing items including the hatchet-like murder weapon, the victim’s back door keys and the clothes and Lonsdale trainers the offender wore.
DCI Kinchin, added: “Even two years on it is possible these item are still lying waiting to be discovered.”
