A Northampton fish and chip shop has been selected as one of the 50 best in the UK.
Silver Sea Fish & Chips, Duston, was one of more than 300 shops to enter the competition run by Fry Magazine.com, and came in the top 24 shops overall with a score of 99 per cent.
Only nine shops scored 100 per cent, and only 16, including Silver Sea, scored 99 per cent.
Chris Leung, owner of Silver Sea Fish & Chips, said: “We were all really shocked! We’re really excited too, as we’re still a relatively new shop.”
Shops were judged on customer service, quality of food and environment by mystery shoppers.
Mr Leung said the secret to the shops success is their focus on producing high quality food using only the best ingredients.
He said: “We use Irish sausages and high quality fish with a light batter. We focus on serving fish that is fresh and succulent.
“We also think that chip shops should sell more seafood and that’s something we focus on.
“Hopefully the publicity from the competition will increase footfall but we don’t want to focus on profits but to boost publicity of the area.
“We want people to know there are quality shops in Duston.”
Helen Edmonds, editor of Fry Magazine, said: “The high level of food at Silver Sea Fish & Chips was matched by excellent presentation and quick, efficient and friendly service. We are delighted to feature them.”
