Kingsthorpe’s junior section has received a huge boost after club member Richard Nicholson donated £4,750 towards their development programme following his annual Charity Cup Day.
Nicholson and co-organiser Andrew Kunman enlisted the help of local businesses to donate prizes as the club look to extend it’s long-running policy of offering free junior membership and coaching,.
With the Texas Scramble comp being won by the quartet of Gareth Witherington, Paul Oval, Neil Picton and Steve Dunkley, the day also raised £4,750 for Northamptonshire General Hospital.
In the recent second Eclectic Medal, a score of net 65 clinched both divisions as Tom Almond and Bob Wright finished two clear in the first and second sections respectively.
Whittlebury
Countback was necessary to decide the podium positions in the August Stableford as Paul Wikeley got the better of Andy Rusk and Richard Parr with 43 points.
Charlie Bodsworth was another impressive winner in the Tony Dear Bogey Comp as he beat the course by six holes. Kenneth Butler and John Colby both finished four holes up.
The Ladies Summer Academy High-handicap Comp witnessed some spectacular scores as Jackie Taylor’s 53 points clinched top spot by two from Tina Murdock, with Joanne De Waele in third on 50.
Brampton Heath
Four birdies were on the scorecard of Harry Brown in the Committee Cup as the junior member bagged 40 points to nudge one ahead of Guy Loveland.
The August Medal was also a tight contest as John Faulkner’s net 71 pushed him one ahead of a quartet of players.
Chris Carlin (net 63) was successful in the sixth round of the Senior Golfer of the Year Comp by two strokes from David Heasman.
Northampton
A couple of shots was the difference between first and second in all three divisions of the seventh round of the Northampton Cup as Grahame Castle, Paul Oakenfull and Robert Norris took the honours.
Castle compiled an excellent net 64 in the top section, Oakenfull clinched the second category with a net 66, while Norris was the leading high-handicapper on the back of a net 67.
Northampton’s juniors maintained their unbeaten record in 2013 in clinical fashion with a 6-0 home defeat of Oundle.
Once Sam Gilkes clinched the opening tie for Northampton on the 18th hole, the result was rarely in doubt as Ross Garlick, Sinead Birks, Cameron Wilson, Josh Limbert and Ben Hawkins grabbed the points.
Northants County
Josh Bryanton, Matthew Myers and Hattie Billson carried away the main prizes in the Junior Club Championships.
A brilliant net 63 meant Bryanton finished 10 shots ahead of Rhys Taylor in the net comp, Myers secured the gross prize with a 75, while Billson collected the Thompson Trophy for the best girl.
Both divisions in the August Midweek Stableford needed countback to decide top spot as Chris Thompson (39 points) gained the low handicap verdict over Chris Fountain, while Guy Sunter (40) beat David Harris in the second category.
Overstone Park
One stroke was the margin of victory in the Junior Open as Tom Goodenough (net 68) got the better of Jack Munday and Martin Conley.
Countback was needed in both August White Tee Stablefords as Mark Wheeler edged out Taylor Sargeant in the Midweek Comp on 41 points, while Steve Alibone (42) beat Tony White at the weekend. Cathy Wiggins (38) was the leading lady.
The junior side enjoyed some mixed results as they suffered a 5-1 reverse at Priors Hall before responding with a 4-2 home success against Peterborough Milton A.
Lucy Martin (7&6) grabbed the only Overstone point on the Corby course, while Luke Barney, Daniel Smith, Sean White and Oliver Timms all secured huge victories a few days on home territory.
Staverton
Derek Edwards never looked back after completing his opening four holes in level par as the 19-handicapper shot the leading score of net 66 in the Vets August Medal. Robin Brown (67) was runner-up.
It was a similar story in the Junior Open as Joshua Bryanton (Northants County) carded four pars in the first five holes on his way to a net 71. Conor Rosling and Giorgio Forgione were next on 73.
The club’s junior team recorded a superb 4-2 victory at Peterborough Milton B, thanks to two big wins Josh Dennison and Joshua Young.
Farthingstone
Club champion Ian Donald added another title to his list of achievement this season as he won the Anniversary Trophy with a net 69.
On a difficult day for scoring, Donald saw his handicap cut to three after finishing one stroke ahead of Anthony McCormack, with Brian Duckworth in third spot on 71.
Hellidon Lakes
Daniel Harris, Lloyd Rawlins and Graham Newport were the divisional winners in the August Stableford.
Forty one points was the winning score for Harris in the top section, Rawlins was leading mid-handicapper on 38, while Newport’s 39 points was comfortably the best score in the lower category.
Philip Gibson (net 68) secured the August Midweek Medal by a single shot from Barry Currell, who compiled the best gross score.
Delapre
Robert Rodgers has seen five shots come off his handicap after recording his second victory this month in the August Stableford, before finishing fourth in the Mayors Appeal Comp.
Rodgers carded 42 points to beat James Bussey by one in the Stableford and then compiled a net 70 a few days later in the charity event as William McAree took the honours on 67.
Cherwell Edge
Birdies at the seventh, eighth, 13th, 16th and 17th holes helped Ryan Commons shoot a stunning winning tally of 48 points in the August Midweek Stableford. Max Forbes was runner-up on 41.
Three pars in the closing six holes secured a countback victory for Dave Newby in the Captains Stableford as he got the better of Michael Hobbs (39 points).
Cold Ashby
Graham Bott, Gavin Cope, Paul Askew and Tony Earp (122 points) were the team to beat on Presidents Day as they finished four clear of Adam Smith, Andy Aveyard, Bob Clayton and Stuart Nicholas.
An excellent back nine of 24 points helped Ben Brown clinch the August White Tee Stableford on countback from Neil Entwistle after both came in with 44.
Collingtree
Four points was the margin of victory for Ben Jones in the Medinah Classic as he comfortably held off the challenge of James Hayden and Ian Brown (both 38).
Daventry
Carol Clifford was successful in the Ladies August Medal as a round of net 71 lifted the 36-handicapper two shots clear of Lynda Partis.
