A new restaurant hoping to bring a taste of Spain to Northampton has opened.
The Sol Y Luna tapas bar in Kingsley Park Terrace celebrated its opening night last week – serving more than 100.
Residents from Kingsley visited the bar as well as a number of Spaniards who live in Northampton and Wellingborough.
Restaurant owner Mark Nolan said he was “a bit overwhelmed” by the number of customers but was very happy so many had decided to visit.
One customer said: “Northampton is crying out for a good quality restaurant pub.
“There are not many places where you can sit outside on the main road and feel comfortable.”
The bar includes an area of wooden decking with several tables and chairs in front of the main entrance as well as a rear garden which will shortly be opened for ‘alfresco’ diners.
The bar joins a number of other restaurants and takeaways on the Kettering Road that serve foreign cuisine.
The dishes available on the menu vary from squid rings and cooked hams as well as vergaterian options including grilled mushrooms and Spanish omelettes.
Head chef Pepo Ruiz Jover, originally from Valencia in Spain, said: “We’ll be changing the menu around a bit, adding and taking off different tapas according to what seems right.
“There’s a board in the bar where I’ll write the special tapas of the day but this depends on the ingredients we can find.
“Sometimes it’s hard to get genuine Spanish products.”
There are also plans for Spanish cinema days, language exchanges and other cultural events in the bar.
